  • Rodger Foster, DVM

    Practice Owner
    Retired February 28, 2013 but still active owner of Southington Veterinary Associates. Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee. Dr. Rodger E. Foster, a 1984 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine--moved to CT to pursue his dream of owning his own practice.  In 1985 he joined Old Canal and eventually bought out the small practice located on Darling St.  Since that time Dr. Foster has made many changes to the outside of the practice but the heart of the clinic remains the same.  His easygoing manner and quality medicine have kept clients coming back year after year from as far away as Florida. 

    Dr. Foster hand-picked his Associates currently operating SVA.  He wanted the practice to maintain the same high standards in quality medical care, compassionate care and fair pricing he has always offered.

    His retirement consists of managing a menagerie of pets at home with his wife Sherry.  He is looking forward to starting a farm down South and enjoying his days of retirement with occasional trips back home to check on the practice.

  • Dr. Brian Vitelli, B.S., D.V.M., M.A.

    Associate Veterinarian
    Dr. Brian Vitelli has joined our practice! Dr. Vitelli received his Bachelor's degree in animal science from the Purdue University School of Agriculture in 1977 and received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the Purdue Veterinary School in 1982.  He holds Master's degrees in biology, entomology and public health.  In addition, Dr. Vitelli has a Connecticut teaching certificate, a certificate in forensic entomology, and is certified in veterinary acupuncture.

    Prior to practicing here, Dr. Vitelli, built, owned and sold Foxon Veterinary Hospital, taught science at the Morgan School and Gateway Community College, served as a relief Public Health Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer for the Food Safety Inspection Service of the USDA and worked as a health inspector for a municipal Health Department.  For the past two years, Dr. Vitelli has been practicing Veterinary Medicine and surgery at Mill Pond Veterinary Hospital on the Connecticut shore.

    Originally from the New Haven area, Dr. Vitelli currently resides in Guilford with his family. His pets include several pythons, two tortoises, Charlie the Wonderdog and 18 year old Stinky Cat.

    Dr. Vitelli is currently seeing patients and performing acupuncture at Southington Veterinary Associates where he is committed to the health and well being of his patients.  When not hard at work, Dr. Vitelli enjoys reading, nature study, traveling, and spending time with his family.

  • Jessica Forster, DVM

    Dr. Jessica Forster is originally from Danbury, CT and has been working in the animal field for over 13 years. She earned her Bachelors degree in Animal Science from The University of Connecticut in 2007 and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University in 2012.  After practicing in Edmond, OK for 2 years, Dr. Forster decided to move back to Connecticut and worked in Middletown before accepting a position here at SVA.
    Dr. Forster currently resides in Unionville with her husband Chris, daughter Delilah, bulldog Mugsy and 2 cats Brynn and Rocky.  In her spare time she enjoys cooking, baking, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

  • Samantha Mazzucola, DVM

      Dr. Samantha Mazzucola grew up near the Jersey shore in Middletown, NJ. She continued her undergraduate studies at the University of Connecticut in Storrs graduating in 2007 with a double major in animal Science and Pathobiology. She was lucky enough to be accepted into veterinary school immediately following college and attended Iowa State University. During that time, she was elected into Phi Zeta, The National Veterinary Honor Society and graduated in 2011.  After graduation, she pursued her passion for mixed animal medicine accepting a job in New Hampshire where she worked for four years. Here she was able to make house calls for clients and worked on many different types of animals. For the past year she has worked in West Hartford doing general practice and emergency medicine working with small animals until she accepted the position here at Southington Veterinary Associates.  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her dog, Tovin and her two cats Oliver and Zoey.

  • Jinkyu Shin, DVM

    Dr. Jin Kyu Shin is originally from Seoul, South Korea and is fluent in Korean as well as English.  He joined SVA in June and brings with him a positive energy that flows throughout the hospital. He is an upbeat positive person anxious to meet new patients and clients.  
    Dr. Shin earned his Bachelor's in Neuroscience from Washington State University and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University.  Upon graduation Dr. Shin spent a year interning at a Veterinary Referral & Emergency Hospital in Texas, where he continued to pursue his surgical and internal medicine interests. 
    Dr. Shin lives with his wife Eunice, and his cat Arang, in Meriden. Free-time means playing sports and spending time with his friends and family.

  • Bridgit Herrick , B.S. Animal Science, CVT

    Practice Manager

    Bridgit Herrick possesses over 20 years of experience in the veterinary field.  She was hired as a veterinary technician in October of 1996 with a B.S. degree in Animal Science-self design from the University of Vermont.  In addition to passing the veterinary technology certification program in 2005, Bridgit took over as practice manager at Southington Veterinary Associates.  Working towards certification in veterinary management  she is currently trying to fill Dr. Foster's shoes and exceed the standards of compassion, medical care, integrity and professionalism that SVA clients have come to rely on.
    She and her husband along with 2 dogs, 3 cats and multiple fish call the shoreline their home.  They spend weekends at the dog park, in addition to sight-seeing around the area and gardening.

  • Christina Spann

    Veterinary Ambassador

    Ten years ago Christina was hired as a veterinary ambassador at SVA and today is in charge of running the front end. Her customer service record is impeccable and many of our clients look forward to seeing her smiling face at the front counter.

    She attended Roger Williams University in Rhode Island and was studying marine biology before joining SVA.  Her plans are to continue to excel in customer service and currently is working towards getting certified in customer service in order to be a customer service advocate.

    Christina is an avid softball player and lives with her husband and 2 cats.  She is also responsible for creating the client scrapbooks found throughout the clinic!

  • Bill Daily

    Veterinary Ambassador

    Bill Daily joined the Southington Veterinary Associates Reception team in May 2012 with a Veterinary Assistant Certificate from Middlesex Community College.  As a former package store owner and world traveler, Bill understands the importance of interacting with people and their pets as well as the important bond they share. He is currently in charge of our prescription diets and takes a lot of continuing education in order to be on top of nutritional questions clients may have.  If anyone has any questions regarding pet insurance Bill can guide the clients in the right direction.
    Bill is the proud owner of a chocolate lab named Colby who likes to go hiking and exploring in his free time. In addition, Bill spends a lot of time volunteering at shelters.  His dream is to finally visit Antarctica.

  • Kelly Kirschmann

    Veterinary Ambassador

    Kelly is another member of our Ambassador team. She joined us in early February with over 2 years of experience in the field.  In 2012 Kelly completed the Veterinary Assistant program through Middlesex Community College. The knowledge she gained from this program helps Kelly assist customers at the front desk.  Through caring for own asthmatic cat whom recieves inhaler treatments, she has picked up a thing or two about dealing with cats with asthma and their special requirements.  Kelly is a big fan of live music, and loves supporting her favorite bands during her time off. She also enjoys spending time outdoors and caring for her two cats Smitty and Pig Pen.

  • Stefanie Souza-Ferreyra

    Veterinary Room Assistant/Ambassador

    Stefanie joined SVA in May 2015. She had just completed courses at Manchester Community College to become a Certified Veterinary Assistant, as well as a course offered through the American Red Cross: Dog and Cat First Aid and CPR. On her own she has pursued various other certifications such as Heartworm in Dogs, Canine Separation Anxiety, Feline Behavior Basics, etc. Her love of pets and people shows through her smile as she happily assists clients, doctor's and staff. Many of our clients appreciate that she is able to translate the doctor's instructions and medical expertise into Spanish so they can better understand what is happening with their pets' health. When Stefanie is not hard at work she is at home with her pets: Niko, Maxi, Aria, and Miley or hiking or traveling with her husband Isaac.

  • Deborah Holyst, B.A.

    Veterinary Technician

    Deb Holyst has been with Southington Veterinary Associates since 2005.  She earned her B.A. in Anthropology with a biological concentration from Central Connecticut State University in 2003.  She started out at SVA as a Receptionist and gradually exhibited the skill set needed to become a Room Assistant.  Through hard work, dedication and continuing education classes Deb has risen to her present position as a Veterinary Technician.  She is frequently found in surgery monitoring, prepping and working closely with the surgeon in charge.  Deb maintains and raises all AAHA standards involved with  surgery from protocols, to pain management, to proper procedures and training surgical staff.  Many of our clients have had the pleasure of meeting with Deb to go over instructions post surgery. 
    At home she manages a large menagerie of fur children.  Deb is always bringing in recipes and magazines for staff to try out. We look forward to being her culinary guinea pigs!

  • Morgan Susco

    Veterinary Technician

    Since joining the SVA team in June of 2014 Morgan has completed her degree in Veterinary Technology from MXCC. She is scheduled to take the National Boards sometime in 2016 in order to become a certified Veterinary Technician.  Morgan spends a lot of her time as part of the surgery team, lab technician, room technician, receptionist and client educator.  She especially loves to perform dental prophylaxes on patients who need them.  It's nice to see what a huge difference it makes in how the patient feels after the procedure and also she enjoys sharing with clients ways to maintain dental health in the future.  Her and her fiancee recently purchased their first house and together with their pets-Jersey, Diesel, and Tilly spend most of their time painting, decorating and making it into a home that they all can enjoy for years to come!

  • Nicole Reilly

    Veterinary Technician   

    Nicole joined SVA in August 2015.  With over 16 years of experience in the industry, Nicole is well versed in Surgical Anesthetics, Patient Care, Client Education, Radiology, Medical Record Keeping, etc.  She is an integral part of our surgical team as well as our laboratory staff.  Special interests are  in Animal Behavior and Training.

  • Sherry Foster

    Sherry Foster is the payroll administrator at Southington Veterinary Associates. A wife, mother, step mother, business owner, and volunteer for The Chariots of Hope Organization, which provides wheelchairs to those in need, she is constantly in motion never stopping until the job is done.  An inspiration to anyone who believes that hard work will take you places.
